Emily Herring live at Kafé de Luxe

Emily Herring is a Texas native with one helluva voice. Lucky for us she is currently on a Sweden tour and tonight she played in my hometown Växjö, at Kafé De Luxe's ever so charming terrace to be precise.

In case you haven't noticed yet, this review is written in English, on the off chance that the artist herself might stumble upon this dumb ass brilliant blog.

Herring started her set at around 8 o' clock. The sun was still up and it was a beautiful summer night, as good as it ever gets really in this latitudes. The atmosphere demanded a beer so I got one and sat down to enjoy the show. And what a show it was! Herrings voice completely cut throught the air and I think all twenty or so of us watching simultaniously dropped our jaws a little bit. She smoothly mixed original songs with covers of Merle Haggard, Gillian Welch (oh yeah!)  and The Dixie Chicks to mention a few. She was also good at the art of small talk which is something that you certainly can't say of all artists.

For you losers out there who still have no idea who this Emily Herring is I would say her music is traditional country with maybe a touch of twang. But there's really no need to put a label on it, all you really need to know is she's one of the most talented artist I've ever seen live.

Best songs: "Turqoise Earrings" and "Tonight The Heartache's On Me" (Dixie Chicks cover).

Take a lsiten to Emily Herring on Spotify! Or go see her in one of her upcoming shows in Kisa, Borås or Malmö. For more information go to www.emilyherring.net/tour/
